Review | Square Pie, Birmingham

Square Pie Restaurant Birmingham Grand Central Food Review Menu
A couple of weeks back, I was invited to dine at Square Pie in Birmingham. As I'm not a huge pie fan, I brought my family with me to get a second, third and forth opinion since they're lovers of all things pie.

Located within the bustling Grand Central, we were greeted by the friendly staff before explaining how the menu and ordering process worked. In terms of pies, you can either go 'solo' to order just the pie itself for £4.70 or as a 'meal' to order a pie and two sides for £6.80.

Even though Square Pie is classed as a restaurant, it isn't a restaurant whereby the waiter would take your order and have you waiting before you getting your food. Its more like a restaurant that you'd find in department stores like Debenhams or John Lewis, where you'd just pick out what you want at the counter, pay, eat and then go.

The pies we ate were actually really good! At first we all thought that the meals wouldn't be enough to fill us up but boy were we wrong. We were completely stuffed and found it hard to finish everything! I was so glad that the pies were puff pastry pies though because shortcrust pastry pies are really not my thing. The filling inside the pies were all tasty and flavoursome, I can't really fault them. However, if I have to say something negative about the meal and experience, I would say that it was pretty awkward at times eating out of a take-out box. It would've been a lot easier eating from a plate because we found ourselves needing to angle our knives and forks in a weird way when cutting our pies up within the box. Saying that though, we did manage to demolish it all.

I totally would recommend Square Pie - especially to people wanting to catch up with their friends or family over a quick bite to eat. Not only do they serve an extensive range of pies, they also serve a range of salads, jacket potatoes and British classics, which I'm sure will be just as delicious. Fear not gluten-intolerant people! Square Pie also offer a great range of gluten-free options on their menu too!

Oh yeah, did I mention that you're entitled to unlimited gravy? (Are you drooling yet?)

*Food and drinks were all paid for by Square Pie. All views and opinions are my own.
